What is Epitalon?

A pineal-derived tetrapeptide studied for telomerase activity and circadian regulation.

How it works

Proposed to induce telomerase expression in somatic cells and normalize melatonin rhythm via pineal signaling.

What it has been studied for

  • Melatonin rhythm restoration
  • Improved sleep depth
  • Reduced nighttime waking
  • Circadian reset
  • Combined anti-aging and sleep benefits

These are effects reported or investigated in research, much of it preclinical. They are not proven outcomes or health claims.

Published research

  • Long-running Russian cohort work reporting mortality differences
  • In-vitro telomere elongation in human fibroblast culture
  • Methodological quality of available studies is widely debated

Half-life

Short — minutes to hours (tetrapeptide)

Cautions

Evidence base is thin and largely from a single research group.

Side effects & fixes

Common side effects

  • —Morning grogginess
  • —Headache
  • —Vivid dreams
  • —Injection-site redness

Histamine reactions

Occasional injection-site redness or itching.

Common fixes

  • Lower the dose or take it a little earlier in the evening if mornings feel heavy.
  • Avoid alcohol and other sedatives on the same night.
  • Rotate injection sites (abdomen, thighs, upper arms) and stay at least an inch from the last spot.

Stop and get help

  • Breathing problems during sleep or excessive daytime sleepiness.
  • Stop and get emergency help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, trouble breathing, widespread hives, chest pain or fainting.

Basis: Small human studies and community reports. Educational only, not medical advice.

Medication concerns

Theoretical: no human interaction studies
  • Alcohol, benzodiazepines (alprazolam, lorazepam), sleep medicines (zolpidem), opioids and sedating antihistamines

Effects on sleepiness and slowed reactions can add up. Don't drive until you know how you respond.

  • Melatonin-containing products

Check whether a blend already contains melatonin before adding more.

  • Everything else you take, including supplements

Bring a full list of medicines and supplements to your pharmacist or clinician before starting.

Basis: No interaction studies for DSIP or epitalon; concerns follow from their intended sleep-promoting effect. Educational only, not medical advice. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine without your prescriber.
